Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the Moldovan authorities, arguing that “NATO is already using Ukraine as an instrument of its aggression, and now they are seeking to do the same with Moldova”.
He noted that Moldova’s president, Maia Sandu, is clearly heading for a break in relations with Russia. Lavrov said that although Moldova’s constitution stipulates a neutral status, the situation is changing and Moldova is becoming a tool for the European Union and, possibly in the future, NATO.
He expressed regret that the Moldovan authorities do not draw conclusions from past experience and probably count on a military solution to the problem with Transnistria.
Lavrov stressed that the use of force in this matter would be reckless for the Moldovan leadership and they should realize this or they need to explain very clearly the reasons for such an approach.
