Today, August 12, we celebrate International Youth Day. On this occasion, artistic events will be organized in different places of the Republic of Moldova. Especially active events are planned in Ungheni – this year it has become the youth capital. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, young people in the country account for about 25% of the population and their number has decreased by 37 thousand people compared to 2022, citing information from moldova1.
A diverse event will be organized in Ungheni to celebrate International Youth Day. It will start in Chisinau at the railway station at 10:00, from where more than 200 young people will travel to Ungheni on a special “Youth Train”. Concerts, dances, games, contests and master classes are planned, as well as the opportunity to win prizes. The event will be attended by Education and Science Minister Dan Perciun, as well as the UNFPA permanent representative in Moldova, Nigina Abaszadeh.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the country is home to more than 615 thousand young people aged between 14 and 34. They make up about a quarter of the population. However, their number has decreased by 37 thousand people compared to the previous year.
It is important to note that International Youth Day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1999. It is designed to raise awareness of issues that affect young people and to promote their participation in social, economic and political processes. This year’s theme is “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World”
