The driver who accidentally hit a woman at a pedestrian crossing on Munchesti highway on 17 August was given a four-year suspended prison sentence. The court initially ordered the sentence to be served in an open prison, but given his lack of criminal record and the fact that he has three dependent children, the sentence was reduced. The driver was also banned from driving vehicles.
The judges noted that the driver pleaded guilty and cooperated with the investigation. He claimed that before the tragedy he stopped in front of the pedestrian crossing to let pedestrians pass and did not notice how he hit the woman while moving from the spot.
The accident took place on 17 August on Munchesht road in the Botanika sector of the capital. According to the police, the minibus hit the woman at an unregulated pedestrian crossing and it was fatal for the 57-year-old victim.
The verdict can be challenged at the Chisinau Court of Appeal within 15 days.
