The mother of Anastasia, the little girl who was fatally hit by a trolleybus driver on Chekany, expressed her bewilderment when she learnt that the driver appealed against the sentence of 2.6 years’ imprisonment handed down by the first instance.
She wrote that she was still hoping for some show of humanity from the driver. However, she learnt that the driver believes that she does not deserve punishment and is innocent.
The girl’s mother also shared that a hearing at the Court of Appeal has been scheduled for 17 January 2024 and she was shocked by the news. She found it difficult to understand how the killer of her child would be able to enjoy freedom for another 6 months.
She expressed her outrage that the driver had filed a counterclaim claiming that 2.6 years of imprisonment in an open colony was too harsh a punishment and that she did not deserve to be punished. The girl’s mother emphasised that this situation causes her great frustration and pain.
She begged the Court of Appeal to hear her plea and to postpone the hearing to the near future. The girl’s mother expressed her hope that human life would matter in the country and that every murderer would be held accountable for his or her actions.
