The Government of the United States of America has approved a grant of 220 million dollars for Moldova to implement investment projects in the energy sector. This decision was confirmed today, when MPs ratified the 15th Amendment to the Assistance Agreement between the two countries.
The financing is meant to strengthen Moldova’s energy security and reduce dependence on the Russian Federation. The main uses of the funds include connecting the energy sector to European systems, attracting investments in local energy production, diversifying natural gas supplies and improving energy efficiency.
The total amount of funding under the Aid Agreement for Sustainable Economic Growth Based on European Integration will amount to 392 million dollars in grant aid to Moldova.
The agreement also includes budget support of $76.8 million from the U.S. government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). This financial contribution will help ensure the country’s sustainable economic growth based on European integration.
