The leader of the PLDM, Vlad Filat, expressed the urgent need to rebuild the state. He stressed the importance of uniting the PLDM with the National Unity Party and the party’s intention to move forward. As part of this plan, PLDM intends to participate in local elections and offers a force capable of building and developing. Filat also noted that their ultimate goal is the reunification of Moldova with Romania.
For the next four years, Vlad Filat will lead the Liberal Democratic Party, which he founded in 2007. The announcement was made at the 10th extraordinary congress of PLDM.
Vlad Filat’s release from prison sparked a political dispute in Chisinau. Filat was serving his sentence in penal colony No. 13 in Chisinau and appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), alleging violations of his rights and inhumane detention conditions. On January 31, 2023, the ECHR partially satisfied his complaint and ordered the state to pay him €7,500 in compensation for moral damages.
Vlad Filat, speaking at a press conference, noted that he had been waiting seven years and four months for this moment, which corresponds to the time since his arrest on October 15, 2015.
