Former Prime Minister Filat said that if the current authorities showed at least a little political responsibility and respect for the people and the country, they would leave their posts peacefully. In his Facebook post, he cited figures showing that the European Union (EU) has allocated over 1.2 billion euros to Moldova from October 2021 to May 2023. Filat said that this is an impressive support compared to the previous amounts received by Moldova.
He mentioned various amounts of assistance, including over 400 million euros within the economic investment plan, about 300 million euros in macro-financial support and 240 million euros earmarked for budgetary support in the energy and energy efficiency sector.
Filat said that the period when Moldova received the biggest support from the EU and became a candidate for accession was the period when the population faced deep poverty. The emergence of this poverty coincided with an aggressive rise in inflation, an increase in gas and electricity tariffs, as well as a socio-economic deterioration. Filat said that this situation might give the wrong impression that the European integration leads to chaos, poverty and frustration.
He stressed that the reason for the Moldovans’ impoverishment does not lie in the EU, but rather in the actions of the leaders in Chisinau. Filat said that the EU remains an example of social civilization and a high level of economic development, based on an advanced democratic culture.
Filat emphasized that Moldova’s current authorities clearly lack such an advanced democratic culture, based on respectful dialogue, political responsibility and concern for the well-being and unity of the society. He concluded his statement by saying that if those in power showed a little political responsibility and respect for the people and the country, they would leave office peacefully.
