Igor Dodon, leader of the Party of Socialists, expressed his concern that many important enterprises in Moldova are closing or ceasing to operate. In his opinion, investors doubt the country’s prospects. He gave examples of such closures, mentioning the Macon plant and now Fujikura in Comrat, as well as the suspension of the Floarea soarelui plant in Balti.
Dodon said that these events led to the loss of thousands of jobs, which happened during the rule of Maia Sandu. He said that the PAS party and Maia Sandu herself make promises on TV and during election campaigns, but in reality they ignore workers’ problems.
He recalled the Socialists’ proposals in parliament, including a return to the laws passed in 2020 (which were repealed by Sandu), including a commitment to allocate at least 50% of store shelves to Moldovan products. However, a majority of the PAS party opposed these initiatives.
Dodon questions whether it is in the national interest to protect producers from other countries, including Romania and EU countries, or to support Moldovan producers who create jobs and pay taxes in Moldova. He believes that the Prime Minister and the President should deal with these issues rather than holding referendums.
