Starting from the beginning of this year, the state will provide reimbursement of transport expenses to medical workers travelling to work in settlements other than their place of residence. In 2024, 12.3 million lei will be allocated from the state budget for this initiative, covering 2,500 people.
The response of the Health Ministry’s representatives, provided to Europa Libera, specified that about 700 doctors and 1,800 paramedics are sent to work in other localities. However, the department did not provide information on whether transport costs would be partially or fully covered by the state, or how they would be calculated.
“The amounts have not been specified, as changes may occur. At the moment, the draft government decision is at the stage of approval,” the response said.
The draft has not yet been published for public discussion.
Earlier, Europa Liberă reported about medical workers travelling daily from Chisinau to Orhei and other districts, covering the costs out of their own pockets. This affects about 20 doctors and 35 nurses who pay their own public transport fares or fuel to get to their place of work.
The deputy director of the Orhei District Hospital, Elena Palanchuk, said that these doctors are an integral part of the institution and without them there would be a critical shortage of staff.
