The National Programme of Forest Expansion and Reforestation was launched in Moldova. 35 million seedlings have been prepared for this initiative, organised by the Ministry of Environment and Moldsilva Agency with the support of the President of the country. The programme, covering the period from 2023 to 2032, aims to restore and create new forest areas with a total area of 145 thousand hectares.
The campaign for the current year takes place in November-December, with 4,000 hectares treated for planting and an inventory carried out in forest farms. As a result, it is estimated that about 35 million saplings are available. In the next ten years, forest land in Moldova is planned to expand by about 150,000 hectares, utilising both new land and heavily degraded forests in public or private ownership.
The measures are part of the National Programme of Forest Expansion and Reforestation proposed by President Maia Sandu. According to the government, this initiative will benefit agriculture by providing the necessary moisture and will change the face of the country’s rural areas. Ministers are also involved in the campaign.
