Moldovan citizens who have worked more than two years after retirement can request a review of their benefits. This process is carried out through the territorial offices of the National Social Insurance Fund or online.
Over the last 19 days, more than 27 thousand requests have been received, of which 16 thousand were submitted online, as mouldova1.md reports.
Catherine Choitu, a former teacher from Chisinau, worked all her life and after retirement she applied for recalculation in 2019 and again in 2024.
“I learnt about the possibility of recalculation and decided to give it a try. Any extra income is good for the family. The money goes to benefit the family budget and it is financially supportive. I don’t need expensive things, but every help is valuable,” says Ekaterina Shoitu.
Many of those who applied for recalculation continue to work.
“My wife worked in a kindergarten from the age of 16 to 73, and even after retirement she was persuaded to stay because her children and parents loved her very much. I came to increase my pension because I retired in 2004 and I am still working,” says Alexandru Boico from Chisinau, who is about to turn 82.
“It is in any case additional money to the family budget, especially when there are two pensioners in the family. If we don’t work, it’s difficult. My husband and I work, I continue to work after retirement for six years already,” says Raisa Drozdov from Chisinau.
Since the beginning of the year, Moldovan citizens who have worked for at least two years after retirement have the right to have their payments reviewed. Those who receive disability pensions can also apply, provided that they have completed their contributions.
“From 1 January, citizens, including those who have already made a recalculation and worked for another two years, became eligible for pension recalculation. Those whose length of service after the pension is at least two years are eligible to apply for a recalculation of their disability pension. Applications can be submitted in offices or online. We constantly encourage citizens to apply online to avoid travelling in winter. We also work on weekends, so that citizens can receive an increase in their pensions next month,” says Luba Rotaru, head of the National Social Insurance Fund.
Applications for pension revision are processed within 60 days, and payments in the new amount are calculated from the month following the submission of the request.
