According to Oleg Tofilat, the head of the Railway Ministry, the construction of a high-speed railway line between Chisinau and Bucharest will significantly reduce travelling time. At present, as radiochisinau.md reports, the Druzhba train, which runs daily between the two capitals, loses a lot of time due to the need to switch from the European gauge to the Soviet standard, which is wider.
Tofilat also said that there is a high demand for trains between Moldova and Romania. Besides the Druzhba train, two other trains run daily between Chisinau and Iasi. However, at present, new carriages cannot be added due to their unavailability.
