It is ready to provide political support and transfer the necessary knowledge to help the Republic of Moldova become a full-fledged member of the EU. This support will be provided both bilaterally and through relevant European mechanisms and instruments, as reported by moldpres.md.
This commitment was expressed in the Joint Statement of the Polish and Moldovan Parliamentary Assembly, signed in Warsaw. The document was signed by the co-chairs of the Assembly – Mikhail Popșoi and Ryszard Terlecki.
According to the document, the Moldovan-Polish Parliamentary Assembly welcomes the EU Council’s decision to grant candidate status to the Republic of Moldova for EU membership and firmly believes in starting the accession negotiations by the end of this year.
The statement states: “The process of Moldova’s accession should proceed dynamically, based on the principle of meritocracy, without creating artificial obstacles, while observing the conditions arising directly from the EU treaties.
In this regard, we firmly believe that after a positive recommendation from the European Commission, the EU Council’s decision in December 2023 to begin accession negotiations with the EU will ensure the irreversibility of Moldova’s European path and provide a systemic impetus for long-term reforms”.
