The head of Gagauzia expressed hope that President Maia Sandu will be brave enough not to hide behind her position and answer for her statements.
“Maia Sandu has again made discriminatory remarks against our people and our autonomy. Her words insult all Gagauz: local residents, voters of the autonomy and my rivals in last year’s elections for bashkan. Sandu and her party ignore the will of the Gagauz voters. This is no longer an accident. This is a systemic phenomenon,” Eugenia Gutsul said.
She emphasized that the results of the election of the bashkan were confirmed by the CEC, the Appeals Chamber of Comrat and were not challenged by anyone, including law enforcement agencies, in court.
“What remains for Sandu are only accusations, insults and envy” – these “false accusations” the bashkan categorically rejected.
“I was democratically elected and approved as bashkan to protect the rights, interests and powers of the residents of the autonomy. I work for them and for our native Gagauzia every day. My actions are absolutely legal. I ignored the lies and slander by Maia Sandu, but today she overstepped all limits. I demand an answer before the law,” Eugenia Gutsul added.
Her lawyers “will immediately initiate a lawsuit for protection of honor and dignity against Maia Sandu for the lies and slander spread at the press conference on March 18, 2024.”
