President Maia Sandu, who is running for a new term, acknowledged that the law on money transfers from abroad needs to be simplified. She emphasized that strict rules were introduced to prevent money from Ilan Șor from coming into the country, but these restrictions have not worked. Therefore, the authorities intend to change the law to facilitate the transfer process for those who work honestly abroad.
This statement was made during the electoral debates. Her opponent, Alexandru Stoianoglo, said that Moldovans can no longer freely spend money earned abroad, as they must prove its origin, and the Russian diaspora cannot send money to Moldova. He commented that this is evidence of a lack of care on the part of the authorities.
Stoianoglo also asked what Sandu and her government have achieved in these years for the diaspora and migrant workers. Sandu replied that all efforts are aimed at improving the lives of both citizens at home and those abroad. She highlighted the importance of infrastructure improvement projects, such as water supply and school renovations.
Sandu added that more measures are needed to improve life in all areas and to encourage more Moldovans to return home. She mentioned that all actions are intended for the benefit of the citizens of Moldova.
At the beginning of the debates, Stoianoglo presented the objectives of his platform, including stopping the population exodus and the European modernization of Moldova in various fields.
