The Socialist Party expresses a strong protest against the actions of President Maia Sandu, which, in their opinion, violate the constitutional status of permanent neutrality of the Republic of Moldova and could potentially drag the country into a military conflict.
Last week, the presidents of Moldova and France, Maia Sandu and Emmanuel Macron, announced the launch of a French permanent defense mission in Moldova, pointing to alleged Russian actions leading up to the country’s EU referendum and presidential elections.
The PSRM draws attention to the fact that such actions by the head of state contradict the permanent neutrality enshrined in the Constitution of Moldova. According to the Basic Law, “The Republic of Moldova does not permit the deployment of armed forces of other states on its territory.”
However, according to the French president, the goal of the mission also includes increasing the interoperability of the armed forces of both countries.
Given Macron’s statements about the possible introduction of French troops into Ukrainian territory, the PSRM expresses fears that neutral Moldova could be drawn into a military conflict as part of NATO initiatives.
The Socialist Party demands that Maia Sandu comply with constitutional norms and renounce the militarization of the country in order to prevent the danger of Moldova being drawn into hostilities.
The PSRM emphasizes its commitment to the values of sovereignty and neutrality of the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing that this is important for the national interests of the country.
