The Romanian Senate has adopted a draft law on the creation of the Institute for Supporting Moldova’s Integration into the European Union during the negotiation phase of Moldova’s possible accession to the EU.
According to this proposal, initiated by a group of parliamentarians from the National Liberal Party (PNL), an autonomous administrative institution with competences that will provide technical assistance to public institutions and authorities of the Republic of Moldova will be established. The institution will be obliged to submit annual reports to both chambers of Parliament. Its management will be exercised through a council composed of a chairman of the Institute and a vice-chairman. Their terms of office will be four years and can be renewed only once.
The chairman and vice-chairman will be appointed and recalled by a majority vote of deputies and senators at a joint session of both houses of parliament on the proposal of parliamentary groups. The bill requires discussion and approval by the Chamber of Deputies, which in this case is the final decision-making body.
