In 2024, the deficit of Moldova’s pension budget is projected at 30 per cent, which will amount to about 6.3 billion lei. These funds will be covered from the state budget, Labour and Social Protection Minister Alexei Buzu said in the programme “Public Space”. He stressed that despite possible structural problems in the pension system, the citizens who have contributed will receive their pensions, which will continue to increase. The deficit is due to the lack of labour force, and the Government will compensate this deficit annually from the state budget at a level of about 30%. In 2023, the pension budget deficit was 32% due to the same reasons. The retirement age in Moldova is 63 years for men and 60 years and six months for women, with more than 675 thousand pensioners in the country.
