Starting from 1 January, residents of Chisinau and Balti in Moldova will pay 15% and 10% less for heating, respectively. The National Energy Regulatory Agency approved these changes on 22 December, according to zdg.md. The Energy Ministry was able to reduce the tariffs by purchasing and storing cheaper gas for the entire winter season. Reforms have also been implemented to modernise the centralised heating system. The connection of approximately 30 state-owned buildings to the district heating system has increased the heat and electricity load of the respective companies. As a result, the financial situation of energy companies, including the municipal enterprise Termogaz-Bălți, has improved. The modernisation of thermal power plants has also led to significant energy savings, specifically 4.7 million m3 of natural gas per year.
