Passengers in Chisinau who have lost or damaged their public transportation pass face a problem: they cannot easily get a new one and have to pay for it. The Chisinau City Hall is considering the possibility of digitalizing this service. Specialists are currently conducting a study to develop a mechanism that would allow the recovery of these passes, if necessary.
The standard price of a monthly pass in Chisinau is 234 lei. For three months it is 594 lei and for six months it is 972 lei. Once the study is finalized, which is planned by July, the mayor’s office intends to present the document for discussion and approval at the Municipal Council. This also opens the possibility of expanding the service at the municipal level.
Vital Mihalache, head of the Urban Mobility Department, notes the need to create a unique platform with personal accounts for users. This will allow passengers in case of loss, theft or damage to the season ticket to continue using the service without losing money.
From July 2022, the cost of a trolleybus or bus fare in Chisinau and suburbs is six lei. Students in the first four grades travel free of charge, as well as pensioners, war veterans or civil servants with special status, provided they have a certificate.
