Dimitri Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation, announced that Moldovan citizens can now enjoy lower roaming tariffs for calls to countries in the European Economic Area. The changes, effective from 21 December, apply to 30 countries, including Romania, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland.
The minister stressed that two of Moldova’s three mobile operators offer favourable roaming offers in Europe, and each user can choose the best tariff, regardless of his operator.
This change is the result of an agreement signed between the Moldovan operators and the European Union, with the support of the Organisation of European Regulatory Authorities for Electronic Communications (OAREC), the European Commission and the Moldovan authorities. The agreement, based on voluntary commitments, follows the signing of a Joint Declaration in May to provide more affordable roaming tariffs for travel between the EU and Moldova.
