The Ministry of Education and Science has developed a project to reorganize the University of Physical Culture and Sports, following the model of the Agrarian University. According to the development strategy “Education 2030” and its implementation program for 2023-2025, the Ministry aims to strengthen the network of higher education institutions, focusing on quality indicators related to the needs of the labor market.
The project envisages the takeover of the University of Physical Education and Sport by the State University of Moldova. The issue is on the government’s agenda and is scheduled to be discussed at a meeting scheduled for December 27, according to unimedia.info.
The main goal of the project is to overcome the problem of artificial redundancy and increase the efficiency of the higher education system in Moldova. This is being done in the context of demographic decline, outflow and unemployment among young people, globalization and competition for resources, as well as the need to implement new teaching methods and technologies resulting from the development of new technologies. Within the framework of the higher education reform, the Ministry of Education and Research focuses on strengthening the university system through the concentration of resources, both human and financial, as well as the allocation of additional financial resources to support the modernization process of higher education and the research sector.
