Today, the National Bank of Moldova presented the new Instant Interbank Automated Payments System (MIA), an innovation for the country’s financial sector. This system, available in all financial institutions of Moldova, allows transferring money between individuals and companies in less than 15 seconds, without commissions, just by phone number, providing citizens with a fast, safe and efficient way of making transactions.
The president of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, said that MIA, which stands for “Instant Payments in Moldova”, offers the possibility to make transfers and payments between individuals and companies with minimum costs and full security, which contributes to improving the business environment and supporting entrepreneurs.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean stressed the importance of the implementation of this system as a key moment in the modernisation of the Moldovan payment system, speeding up, simplifying and reducing the cost of financial transactions for citizens and contributing to security and economic efficiency.
The US Ambassador to Chisinau, Kent D. Logsdon, highlighted the US support for digital innovations, such as the MIA instant payment system, as an important step in ensuring financial inclusion and digitisation of payments in Moldova.
MIA allows funds to be transferred between accounts in Moldovan lei in seconds, available around the clock, making this payment method convenient and efficient. The service is available through mobile and online banking applications, which provides flexibility and convenience for users.
The MIA system can be used by all citizens and companies that have a payment account with a bank or payment company, just by using the phone number registered in the bank or payment company’s database. This reduces the time and effort required for transactions and ensures that financial services are available at any time and place.
