Today, July 20, the Commission for Economy, Budget and Finance examined the applications of candidates for four vacant seats in the supervisory board of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM). According to the results of the meeting, the candidates Natalia Gavrilica, prime minister from 2021 to 2023, and Vitalie Lemne, current vice-president of the National Commission for Financial Market (NCFM), were submitted to the parliament.
Commission chairman Radu Marian said it was important for the commission to strike a balance between the central bank’s independence and taking into account the public interest.
The final decision on the appointment will be made at the plenary session of Parliament, after approval by the Commission for Legal Affairs, Appointments and Immunities. Once appointed, the selected candidates will have one month to renounce positions and affiliations that are incompatible with the position under the law.
The Commission also plans to propose two more candidates for the remaining vacancies in the NBM supervisory board.
