The U.S. Embassy in Moldova issued a “Joint Statement on Pride Month – 2024”, expressing support for LGBTQIA+ people. The statement notes that June is Pride Month and U.S. authorities stand with the LGBTQI+ community both in Moldova and globally, affirming that their rights are human rights. The statement cites the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in December 2023, emphasizing the inalienable right of every human being to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, association and equal protection of the law.
The statement adds that various countries, including the US, have joined forces to ensure full and equal rights for LGBTQIA+ people. This joint statement was adopted by the representations of several countries and organizations, including Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the United Nations, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.
