The U.S. Embassy in Moldova announced the imposition of sanctions against Eugenia Gutsul, the head of Gagauzia. The United States accused Gutsul of aiding fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor and his Kremlin-backed Shor party in illegal political interventions.
Sanctions include:
– Blocking any property of Eugenia Gutsul in the U.S. or under the control of U.S. citizens.
– A ban on any transactions with U.S. citizens or on U.S. territory.
– Prohibition on giving or receiving money, goods or services.
– Denial of the right to enter the United States.
The U.S. representatives emphasized that the people of Moldova, including Gagauzia, deserve free and fair elections and democratic institutions, as well as a future free of the Kremlin’s malign influence. The USA praised Moldova’s progress in democratic and economic reforms and its resilience in the face of external interference. The Americans intend to continue to support the people and government of Moldova in their pursuit of a more democratic, prosperous, and secure future.
In addition, the U.S. has imposed sanctions against hundreds of organizations around the world, including three Moldovan companies – Airrock Solutions, Aerostage Services and Max Jet Service – for supplying aircraft and electronic components to Russia. The sanctions also include blocking property in the United States, prohibiting transactions with U.S. persons, and prohibiting the provision or receipt of funds, goods or services.
These measures were announced by Laura Hruby, Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy.
