Former Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat believes that the start of negotiations with the European Union is not only a sign of confidence, but also a roadmap with legal significance. He explains that this negotiation process will include a bilateral verification, which may last from 12 to 18 months and will be finalized by a verification report. This report will form the basis for negotiations that will begin in the winter when the EU presidency passes to Poland. The negotiations will include the adaptation of European laws and values in Moldova, and the EU will offer financial support to bridge the development gap between Moldova and Europe. Among the first topics to be scrutinized are justice reform, security, public procurement and financial control. Vlad Filat sees this process as an opportunity to rethink the Moldovan state for the coming decades.
