The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, assured Maia Sandu that Moldova can count on the full support of the European Union. The meeting took place at the European Political Community Summit in Budapest, reports moldpres.md.
“Congratulations on your re-election, dear Maia Sandu. During this difficult time for your country, you have shown strong leadership, keeping Moldova on the European path. The EU will fully support Moldova’s economy as you implement the necessary reforms and move closer to the European family,” said Charles Michel.
For Maia Sandu, this is her first foreign visit after being re-elected as President of the Republic of Moldova.
“Today, I am in Budapest at the invitation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to participate in the European Political Community Summit. Together with European leaders, we are discussing the creation of a safer and more prosperous future for the region. I came with a renewed mandate from the citizens of Moldova — with the determination to advance on the path of European integration, improve living standards, and develop the economy,” said Maia Sandu.
During the summit, the President of Moldova will meet with European leaders and representatives of other states to discuss Moldova’s economic development, regional peace and security, as well as the European integration process.
The European Political Community is an initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron and represents a platform for political dialogue on peace and security on the continent, as well as cooperation between EU states and those outside the community. The first summit of the community was held in Prague in October 2022, and the second took place in Moldova in June 2023.
