The incident took place near the Dalneye cemetery, where a 62-year-old pedestrian cycling on the side of the road was seriously injured and died on the spot after colliding with a Nissan car. Both travelling in the same direction, they collided when the man on the bike suddenly tried to cross the road. The driver of the Nissan, a 53-year-old man, claims he tried to avoid the collision but was unable to do so despite braking hard and attempting to avoid the pedestrian.
A criminal investigation has been launched into the accident and a number of forensic tests are being carried out. Both vehicles were sent to a special car park for further investigation of the circumstances of the accident.
