On the evening of July 25, a fire broke out near the Moldovan-Ukrainian border when dry grass caught fire. Border Police officers reported the incident. The area of the fire amounted to about 1.5 hectares. Fire departments did not arrive on the scene in time, but Border Police officers from Olanesti together with civilian efforts tried to stop the spread of the fire.
Thanks to the joint efforts of the Border Police and firefighters, the blaze was localized as soon as possible. However, law enforcers appealed to Moldovan residents to observe fire safety rules. It is very important not to throw matches or lighted cigarettes on dry grass surface, especially in windy weather and low humidity, to avoid ignition of vegetation, which can spread very quickly.
