Important information about local elections: The electoral period starts on August 7, and the election campaign starts on October 6.
According to the schedule approved by the Central Electoral Commission, the electoral period for the general local elections to be held on November 5 begins. During this period, the nomination and registration of candidates for mayors and local councilors will be considered.
The organization and conduct of local elections includes 99 activities divided into 12 sections. The period of electoral procedures will last until the day of approval of the election results by the competent authorities, but cannot exceed 120 days.
Candidates’ campaigning will begin on October 6, when campaigning and propaganda will be allowed.
The election authorities will establish first-level district election commissions and precinct election bureaus. The Central Election Commission will also determine the sample ballot paper and stamps to be used in the elections.
Until the registration of election participants, i.e. candidates, parties, independent candidates and electoral blocs cannot organize campaign activities to persuade voters. Candidates can register until October 6, after which election campaigning will begin.
It is important to note that about 3.3 million voters are registered in the State Register of Voters. The largest number of voters is in Chisinau, while the smallest number of voters is in Basarabeasca, Dubasari and Donduseni districts.
At the moment, several political parties have already presented their candidates for mayor of Chisinau and other cities.
The last general local elections in Moldova were held in 2019.
