Victor Kirilă, the ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Romania, stated that Romania’s experience in joining the European Union is “invaluable” and that Chisinau will likely invite experts from Bucharest for consultations. He emphasized the importance of carefully fulfilling the assumed commitments, referring to Romania’s experience of facing some unpleasant consequences during its accession process. Kirilă expressed hope for attracting specialists through the TAIEX mechanism or directly with the assistance of Romanian authorities’ funding.
He underlined that one of the main goals of the Republic of Moldova this year is to start negotiations for EU accession. Kirilă noted the need to prepare experts for negotiations and readiness for each separate direction, particularly for chapters starting from the following year. He expressed hope for technical expertise in the 33 negotiation areas.
The ambassador highlighted that justice reform would be one of the most challenging chapters due to strong resistance within the system. He emphasized that Moldova’s legislation should be harmonized with the legislation of the European Union.
