Several experts expressed their point of view about the dangers for the Republic of Moldova of such a political formation as the “Shor” party. Vadim Pistrinciuc, former deputy and director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives, shared in a televised broadcast some important aspects that, in his opinion, affect the European integration of Moldova. He noted that the “Shor” party is the result of other problems that the country has been facing for 30 years. In recent years there have been many opportunities to stop their criminal actions, even in the early stages, but they have not done so. This is where our main problem lies, on which European integration depends, Pistrinciuc stressed in the Secretele Puterii program on jurnal.tv.
Julian Groza, director of the Institute for European Politics and Reform, said that to counter criminal gangs in politics, state institutions must fulfill their responsibilities. The Shor party was just one of the tools that Shor used in his actions. When the discussion about banning this party began and it was put on the U.S. sanctions list, Shor attempted to create the “Movement for the People” as a base to move from the Shor Party to a new organization, which then became the Renaissance Party and then formed a bloc. The problem cannot be solved simply by declaring the party unconstitutional. To counteract criminal gangs in politics, it is necessary that the competent authorities do their job, said Julian Groza.
Andrei Cureraru, a security policy expert from WatchDog, noted that the legislation in Moldova is permissive. He suggested that financial supporters of the Shor party should be identified and punished. If one of Shor’s partners is sanctioned and imprisoned, he will no longer be able to use this funding channel. We need to understand that we should not rely solely on restrictive legislation in order to join the European Union. How this problem will be solved is not yet clear, but we need a clear response from the legislator, emphasized Curéraro.
Recall that the Constitutional Court declared the Shor party unconstitutional and outlawed it on June 19.
