At the next meeting of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM), which will take place on 2 December, 15 resignations from judges from the Chambers of Appeal from Balti, Cahul and Comrat will be considered.
Among those who decided to resign before the Vetting Commission’s evaluation are the interim president of the Cahul Court of Appeal, Galina Vavrin, as well as the interim vice-presidents of the Balti Court of Appeal, Adriana Garbuz and Gheorghe Scutelnic, rupor.md reported.
Start of the inspection by the Vetting Commission
On 7 November, the evaluation of the activity of the Chambers of Appeal in Balti, Cahul and Comrat started. The judges of these institutions were notified about the start of the procedure aimed at verifying their financial transparency and ethical integrity.
At the first stage, 15 judges from Balti, as well as 4 judges each from Cahul and Comrat, received from the Vetting Commission the documents necessary for the verification.
Requirements for the magistrates
As part of the assessment, the magistrates were asked to provide the following documents:
Declaration of income and property for the last 5 years.
Statement of personal interests and ties with relatives working in the judiciary, prosecutor’s office or state bodies.
An ethical questionnaire, the completion of which is a prerequisite for passing the check.
The resignation of some judges is related to the desire to avoid going through a rigorous vetting process, which involves a detailed examination of all aspects of their activities.
