The parliamentary opposition represented by the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BKS) plans to oppose the draft law on constitutional amendments related to European integration. This position was expressed by the leader of the BKS parliamentary faction and vice chairman of the parliament Vlad Batryncha during the program “New Week with Anatoly Golya” on TV8 channel, infotag.md reports.
Batryncha noted that the bill itself was presented in violation of procedures. He specified that the registration and publication of the draft on the website took place on Monday morning, while “public hearings” were held an hour later. According to Batrynch, this is only an imitation of hearings and ignoring legal norms. The oppositionist added that not only were they not invited to the hearing, they were also not provided with the bill itself, as required by parliamentary regulations.
He also said that the BCS plans to challenge the bill in the Constitutional Court for several reasons, although he did not disclose details. Batryncha emphasized that the constitutional changes proposed by the bill’s authors, including holding a referendum without a vote in parliament, are unacceptable.
He also noted that the Socialists are not against the referendum on European integration in general, but are strongly opposed to holding it on the day of the presidential election. Batryncha recalled that the initiators of the referendum violated a number of norms, including changes to the Electoral Code in the election year, which contradicts the norms of the Council of Europe.
Regarding the tactics in case of the referendum, the BCS has not yet made a final decision. Batryncha noted that they would probably call for a boycott of the referendum. A boycott could take the form of ignoring the referendum and refusing to participate in it or voting against it.
