Dorin Răcean stated that Russia is trying to create a security crisis in Moldova by using energy as a tool. According to him, Russia’s goal is to provoke a humanitarian crisis in Transnistria, which could later evolve into a threat to Moldova’s national security. The Prime Minister emphasized that Russia is trying to influence the results of the 2024 parliamentary elections by strengthening its military presence on the left bank of the Dniester, which could lead to a threat of an attack on Ukraine from this area.
Răcean explained that Russia wants to destabilize the situation in Moldova by creating a humanitarian crisis in Transnistria, which will later evolve into a much more serious security crisis for the entire country. In his opinion, this way, Moscow will try to change the political situation in Moldova in its favor by strengthening its military presence.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that a pro-Russian government in Moldova would allow Russia to keep weapons on the left bank of the Dniester, including the huge ammunition depots in Colbasna. He also emphasized the importance of military power, which could influence the situation in Ukraine, referring to the existence of 6,000 tons of ammunition that could be used.
