The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared information about the intention to open an honorary consulate in the city of Comrat for a Moldovan news portal. According to the diplomatic response, the establishment of such an institution depends on the provisions of the 1963 Vienna Convention and requires the prior consent of the host state. This decision, it is assumed, may contribute to the promotion of Romania’s political and economic interests in the region. Experts note that this indicates Romania’s desire to participate more actively in the processes taking place in Gagauzia and to strengthen its role in regional initiatives.
