Energy Minister Victor Parlicov announced a new era in Moldova’s gas market. Energocom, which is wholly state-owned, won an auction to supply gas to Moldovagaz in May. The move saved the country about 60 million euros in 2023, as Moldova did not buy gas from Russia’s Gazprom.
Energocom already has gas reserves purchased in previous years. They will supply gas to Moldovagaz in May after winning an auction held at an exchange managed by BRM East Energy, a subsidiary of the Romanian Commodity Exchange.
The minister emphasized that the price offered by Energocom at the auction is lower than the price set by Gazprom. This is another proof that the country can save money by choosing alternative gas suppliers.
The National Energy Regulatory Agency also approved new gas tariffs for consumers of Nord Gaz-Sîngerei SRL from May 1. Their gas price will be 15% lower than Moldovagaz’s. This proposal reflects the desire for a freer and more competitive gas market in Moldova.
