Government representative Daniel Vode explained the situation with the sale of Giurgiulesti port.
According to him, there are two ports in Giurgiulesti: the Giurgiulesti International Free Port (PILG), which is owned by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the state port, which is owned by the state.
“There is no talk of selling the state-owned port. The EBRD, which owns PILG, is negotiating with potential investors from Romania, Turkey, the Netherlands and Denmark,” Wode said.
He added that Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean regularly discusses infrastructure issues with his Romanian counterpart Marcel Ciolacu.
On Wednesday, August 28, the Romanian government will consider a proposal to buy the Giurgiulesti International Free Port from the EBRD. The port is currently managed by Danube Logistics SRL, a company owned by the EBRD.
Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced plans to buy the port in September 2023, as Romania is likely to become a key center for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
