The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed his concern regarding social networks and digital platforms that are increasingly becoming sources of fear and misinformation rather than just means of communication among people. He emphasized that a few decades ago, digital platforms were perceived as an exciting new way of communication, but now they are being abused for spreading misinformation, undermining scientific achievements, and fueling hatred.
Guterres also called for urgent measures to prevent computer applications from going out of control. He noted that these applications must be secure, protected, and comply with ethical standards and human rights commitments. The Secretary-General of the United Nations is convinced that countries should take urgent action in this direction.
