UN representatives in Moldova said that they plan to attract additional funding and expand the UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) Emergency Response Programme. This information was confirmed during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Boley. They discussed ways to support farmers in crisis situations and to solve problems related to the export of grain.
The main difficulties faced by the Moldovan farmers are the fall in prices for their products and high transportation costs. Various options are being discussed to address these problems, including investment in railroad and shipping infrastructure, as well as in border crossing points.
One proposed option includes installing truck scanners, expanding border crossing points and creating parking lots near them.
UN officials expressed their intention to further fund and expand their agricultural emergency response program to support farmers and meet the challenges they face.
