
The parliament approved amendments to the state budget for 2023 and to the Law on the unified wage system in the public sector, which will increase salaries for about 170,000 people. The total amount of the allocated funds amounts to 846.9 million lei.
According to the decision, the salaries of doctors and medical workers in public institutions will be raised by 26 per cent. Teachers will receive a lump-sum payment of 5,000 lei, while non-teaching staff will receive 3,000 lei. Police and Interior Ministry employees will also receive a lump-sum payment of 5,000 lei. The salaries of about 1,700 employees in the cultural sector will rise by 25 per cent.
Also, the budget allocated 100 million lei for the repair of roads, 300 million lei for development projects in villages and towns, as well as for the programme “European Village”. Additionally, 100 million lei have been earmarked to support agriculture. Another 352 million lei will be used to pay for electricity and heat for schools, kindergartens, hospitals and other public institutions.
Nevertheless, the budget deficit will remain unchanged and will amount to 18.3 billion lei, or 5.9 per cent of the gross domestic product.
