A man from Transnistria was detained by the capital police on suspicion of a series of thefts totaling 200,000 lei. Over the past two months, he has likely stolen catalytic converters from Toyota cars parked in the Chekan sector of the capital. The suspect claimed to have sold each converter for 500 euros. This is not the first time he has broken the law: he was previously convicted for committing similar crimes.
A criminal case has been opened against the detained person for theft. If his guilt is proven, he faces a fine of up to 67,500 lei, community service of 180 to 240 hours, or imprisonment for up to 4 years.
