Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu presented the results of a meeting of Moldovan ambassadors, which took place in Chisinau on 16-17 August. He emphasized that the meeting with the ambassadorial teams was timed to discuss and plan diplomatic actions in international relations. The participants in the meeting discussed the key achievements of the last year, including the consolidation of Moldova’s role as a candidate for EU accession and the fulfillment of the conditions granted by the European Commission.
Popescu said that the country managed to present new initiatives in the relations with the EU, such as the European Partnership Mission and the introduction of international sanctions against oligarchs and corrupt officials. He also announced the suspension of quotas on agricultural exports.
Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that an important task at this stage is to get a recommendation to start EU accession talks and appoint a chief negotiator to engage with the EU. He also outlined plans for the future, including Moldova’s participation in the European Union, attraction of investments and support for exports.
Popescu also said that the improvement of consular services for citizens was an important aspect of the discussion. The authorities are working on the creation of an electronic consulate to provide more convenient and faster consular services to citizens.
The meeting of Moldovan ambassadors, organized by the Foreign and European Integration Ministry, was held in Chisinau on 16-17 August 2023.
