Prime Minister Dorin Recean stressed that the simplification of the procedure of obtaining Russian citizenship for Moldovans should not mislead. In his opinion, Russia needs new recruits to take part in military operations in Ukraine. In this regard, he urged Moldovan citizens to refuse to obtain Russian citizenship, warning about the risks of mobilisation and participation in military actions in Ukraine, according to tv8.md.
Recean expressed apprehension, calling it “an attempt to recruit cannon fodder” to support the Kremlin’s military action against Ukraine. He asked Moldovan citizens to avoid manipulation of simplified citizenship procedures, warning against supporting these initiatives.
Recean also emphasised that despite the decrease in the number of Moldovan citizens in Russia after the outbreak of the war, a significant number of them remain there. According to his estimates, there are between 150,000 and 200,000 Moldovan citizens in Russia.
We shall remind you that Russian President Vladimir Putin simplified the procedures for obtaining citizenship for residents of Moldova, Belarus and Kazakhstan, cancelling the requirements of five-year residence in Russia, as well as passing exams on knowledge of the country’s history and laws.
