Charles Michel, head of the European Council, has asked the EU member states to develop an accession plan for Ukraine, Moldova and the Western Balkan countries. The information comes from the French publication Le Monde, which refers to Michel’s letter. Before Thursday and Friday’s European Council summit, Michel asked member states to develop a “working plan” for the possible accession of Ukraine, Moldova and Western Balkan countries to the EU. Michel’s proposal was handed to European Union heads of state and government in writing a few days before the Brussels summit. He invited European leaders to begin preparations for EU enlargement because of the desire of Kiev, Chisinau and some Western Balkan states to join the European organization. Michel’s letter stated the need to carefully consider the integration process and our ability to implement it.
