The construction of a military camp in the Baca district is currently underway as part of an extensive programme to modernise the infrastructure of the National Army. This project is intended to create modern conditions for the military personnel to live, work, study and train, as Defence Minister Anatolii Nosatii noted during his visit to the construction site, citing information provided by radiomoldova.md.
At the same time, the authorities plan to redistribute the military units outside the city, in order to ensure not only the security of the local population, but also the efficient fulfilment of military tasks.
Nosatii said that the launch of the project caused some misinformation and speculations about its goals and financing. In this regard, the official provided a number of clarifications, stressing that the construction is not related to the NATO military base, is a national project financed from the state budget and complies with international standards. The project includes barracks, classrooms, administrative buildings, a food processing centre, storage facilities for military equipment, warehouses, gymnasiums, and a residential area for the soldiers.
The camp is designed for members of the National Army who will be performing their duties in the region. The minister expressed hope that the modern conditions of service and accommodation created within this project will motivate young people to join the military service under contract. In July this year, MPs approved the draft law, allocating more than 26 hectares of agricultural land for the construction of the camp.
