The Road to Inclusive Education in Moldova: A Plan for the Next 3-5 Years
The Ministry of Education in Moldova is actively developing an inclusive education plan covering the next 3-5 years. This plan aims to address the important challenge of ensuring adaptation for children with severe disabilities.
The main point in this plan is the establishment of “inclusive educational institutions” at the district level. The document is expected to be approved by the end of this year. Minister of Education, Dan Perchun, emphasized live on air the importance of increasing the adaptability of institutions to children with disabilities.
He recognizes that this needs to be done step by step, and not all educational institutions can undergo the necessary changes immediately. The first steps in adaptation can be made at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, including adapted toilets, ramps and special tactile paths for blind people.
Although Moldova has already made significant progress in the integration of children with disabilities and special educational needs, some challenges remain. For example, children with severe disabilities still face challenges in mainstream education, sufficient resources are not always allocated, and opportunities are uneven across the country.
While there are successful examples of inclusion of children with severe disabilities, there is a need to develop uniform solutions at the national level. This is what the new plan for inclusive education suggests, focusing on helping children with severe disabilities and ensuring that they have equal opportunities in the educational environment.
