The doctors used this method to treat a 22-year-old woman who was suffering from a congenital heart defect called an enlarged atrial septal defect.
The surgery lasted for five hours and was successful. Cardiovascular surgeon Gennady Bostan notes that this method has many advantages over traditional surgery, as it eliminates pulmonary complications and bleeding, and full recovery takes much less time. The patient has already been discharged from the hospital and feels much better.
The surgery was performed by a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, perfusionists, echocardiographers, anesthesiologists, and nurses. This is a new achievement of medicine in Moldova, which opens up new possibilities for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in the country.
