The European Parliament plans to approve financial assistance to Moldova, which will be provided within the Neighborhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument. This was stated by MEP Dacian Ciolos in an interview with Moldova 1 TV channel. However, in order to realize this assistance, it is necessary to reach an agreement between the EU member states, as the financial means will come from the national budgets, radiomoldova.md reported.
Ciolos said that this money comes from the budgets of the member states, especially those that contribute more to the Union’s budget. Therefore, it is important that beyond the will of the Parliament, the member states in the Council are ready to ensure the budgetary flow so that this money actually enters the EU budget for the next year.
Ciolos stressed that, in order to receive financial support, Moldova needs to continue reforms and to have convincing arguments showing the necessity and deservedness of this support. It is also important that the money be used transparently and efficiently by the government.
According to the European Commission’s review of the multi-annual financial framework, the proposal to create an aid fund for Ukraine worth about 600 million euros was revised on June 20. Part of this amount may be reallocated to aid programs for other neighboring countries, including Moldova, over the next three years.
